On April 27th, the Church celebrated something that was basically unheard of. On Divine Mercy Sunday, with two living popes present, Pope John Paul II and Poe John XXIII were canonized. What a special day in the Church! A double canonization as special as this definitely called for a special celebration in third grade. To celebrate the lives of these two holy men, we had POPE CAKE! Pope cake is a Polish desert that got its name since it was Pope Saint John Paul II's favorite desert. You can find the recipe here. We enjoyed eating our special treat, coloring pictures of these two saints, praying a chaplet of divine mercy, watching a video about JPII's life, and learning from Father John. God is good! Pope Saint John Paul II and Pope Saint John XXIII, pray for us!
